ZÜRICH TANZT: Short Pieces

Lucas Valente: Trees Die Standing
My piece leads into a reality beyond the so-called "beautiful" dance. No classical lines, no coordination between music and steps, no magic. It is about creating an irritating ambience within the ballet sphere, in which disturbing elements of real life are incorporated. Movements based on simple walking patterns. Violent movements that do not want to represent or imitate anything. Choreographic silences and pauses that appear abruptly. Thematically, this work deals with disrupted inner states. The piece shows different aspects of hallucination and delirium, both from within and without. "Trees die standing" are the words of the final music of this piece, referring to the perception of a reality that exists beneath or alongside what is "normal".

Jenna Hendry & Matilda Bilberg: I U M I
How far apart do intimacy and the process of "becoming private" lie?
Based on the motif of an embrace and driven by a desire for closeness and connection, Matilda Bilberg and Jenna Hendry plunge into a journey of sensations to explore the boundary between ‘you’ and ‘me’. Through this search for a tender equilibrium, Matilda and Jenna take up contact with the spectators through an intimate gaze, offering them the opportunity to become aware of their own senses. In these current times of physical distancing, I U M I fully addresses our need and desire for closeness and intimacy.
