Accomplices Model
Our Accomplices help shape Tanzhaus.
Tanzhaus works closely with local choreographers, as equal partners and over the long term. We call them our Accomplices. They know the house, they shape the programme, they help create what happens here — on stage, in the studio, in the city.
Currently, 16 Accomplices are closely connected to Tanzhaus, each for a period of two years.
What does that mean in practice?
Tanzhaus develops an individual form of collaboration with each Accomplice. What exactly this looks like is defined together.
This can include:
- A maximum of one stage production within the two years
- Insights and smaller performances
- Research and experimentation
- Workshops, courses and talks
- Coaching our young talent platform (Show-Off)
- New formats that we invent together
Collaborations among Accomplices, and with other people, are explicitly welcome. Tanzhaus supports them.
What is the model aiming for?
The model was developed with clear goals:
- Less production pressure, more space for research, reflection and exchange
- Greater social impact: the art of our Accomplices should not stay within the theatre alone. What moves them should also reach people beyond it
- Genuine collaboration: shaping things together, not just commissioning work
The model was developed in response to the City of Zurich’s new cultural funding system. It is not a finished system — we keep reviewing it and adapting it.
Who are the Accomplices?
What defines our Accomplices:
- They are rooted in Zurich’s dance scene
- They have their own style, recognisable in how they move or think about dance
- They want genuine exchange
- They work from a personal, social or aesthetic drive
- They share our values
