Rhythms of Ecstasy

Rhythms of Ecstasy
A sharing by Jules Petru

What does rhythm do to a body that is exposed to it for a long time? Jules Petru and Sheang-Li Pung explore this question and give you an insight into their studio research.

Jules Petru and Sheang-Li Pung research together in the studio for the first time. They examine repetition, duration, synchronisation and physical endurance. Their starting points are the rhythms of the Romanian toacă (a wooden percussion instrument) and the shared states people enter on the dancefloor. Sheang-Li Pung’s solo work and his distinct physicality add to this. Out of it grows a joint movement research. It also asks: What happens when different rhythmic practices relate to each other? Which connections appear remains open.

You experience rhythmic repetition, movement and sound. Rhythm and physical endurance are at the centre.

Sharings offer a glimpse into the creative process behind an artistic work. After the presentation, there will be a brief audience discussion. This provides the audience with an opportunity to ask questions, share thoughts, and engage in direct dialogue with the artists.
