World-building through sounds and Creative Audio Description
A workshop with Criptonite

How does a world made of sound come into being? Noah Mundinger and Marquis’ McGee invite you to a three-day workshop on foley and audio description – for blind and visually impaired people, as well as for people with prior experience in audio description.

In the workshop, you get to know foley techniques – creating live sounds with everyday objects – and combine them with creative audio description. Together, you develop stories, characters and atmospheres through sound. The workshop begins with an introduction to integrated audio description and foley technique. After that, movement takes centre stage: you develop characters through movement, connect them with sound, and work with the spatial qualities of sound.

Noah Mundinger and Marquis’ McGee have previously collaborated on the Criptonite production Bioluminescence, which combined integrated audio description and foley effects.

On the left-hand side of the photograph, the upper body of a person can be seen in profile. The person is wearing a brown T-shirt and a green knitted jumper with holes and woven-in purple patterns. The hand of a second person reaches out from the right to touch the jumper and feel the costume. The costume was part of Criptonite’s performance Bioluminescence.
The picture shows Nina as Woosh in the performance Bioluminescence. Only Nina's upper body and legs down to the knees are visible. Woosh is wearing a black long-sleeved top with writing on the right arm that is not entirely legible. A plastic bottle filled with sand and small stones, which makes a noise when it moves, is attached to Ninas forearm with bright white adhesive tape. Woosh is wearing black trousers with a fluorescent pattern in neon green and neon orange.
