Tanzhaus Zürich is seeking sketches for short pieces

Show-Off is Tanzhaus Zürich’s process-oriented platform for emerging artists, designed to provide a low-threshold application process for those at the beginning of their professional careers.

Three artists or groups (maximum of three people per group) will be selected to develop a short piece of no more than 20 minutes from scratch during January/February 2027. The process will culminate in three public performances. (Please note: Existing pieces or projects already in the development phase will not be considered.)

Choreographer Jessica Huber and dancer/per- former Ondrej Vidlar will accompany the selection process and the process as coaches.

Selected projects will receive a grant of CHF 2000 per person*, as well as technical and dramaturgical support. Participants will also have free access to the professional training during the development period.

This call is open to dance and performance makers who have completed their professional education and either reside in the Canton of Zurich or have a strong connection to the city.

Full availability is required for all selected artists for the Kick-off Meeting on January 7, 2027, the main rehearsal on Febrary 2, the dress rehearsal on February 3 as well as the performances on February 4 – 6, 2027.

  • Project sketch (max three A4 pages) Concepts must be feasible without major stage adjustments or complex props.
  • Short letter of motivation (max. one 1 A4 page) including details on your connection to Zurich
  • CVs of all participants and, if applicable, video links (no downloads)

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

  • Application deadline: June 28, 2026
  • Decision: July 2026
  • Development period: January 7 to February 3, 2027 (Studio allocation will be coordinated in consultation with all participants)
  • Public performances: February 4 to 6, 2027

*Payment is made upon invoice from an association/legal entity. If no such structure exists, the artist will be formally employed by Tanzhaus, and the amount will be reduced by standard social security contributions. A valid Swiss work permit is a prerequisite for employment. The grant is only paid to individuals actively participating in the rehearsals and performances.
