The residency program at Tanzhaus Zürich provides artists with time and space in an inspiring environment. It also creates encounters with the Tanzhaus team and the local community.
The 12-day research and development residencies are awarded to artists
- who are at home in one of Zurich's communities and would like to collaborate with Tanzhaus for the first time,
- who have already collaborated with us (co-production/accomplice, Show-Off, associated festival)
- who are proposed by the Tanzhaus accomplices – as well as to
- national and international artists who are in an established stage of their career.
Priority is given to artists
- whose work is fueled by a personal, social, and/or aesthetic urgency,
- who incorporate a vision of sustainability into their practice.
If you are interested we need
- a short sketch of the project (max. one page),
- a few sentences on why you would like to come to Tanzhaus,
- a CV plus video links to past works (if possible) – as well as
- your preferred (rough) timeframe.
Please send us your application by email.
Deadline
The last deadline for residencies under the artistic direction of Catja Loepfe was 15 March 2025. We will inform you here in due course about any continuation of the residency programme under the new direction of Tanzhaus from the 2026/2027 season.
Residency guests are chosen by an internal panel of Tanzhaus team members. Decisions are communicated within one month.
Conditions
Local artists receive a flat rate of CHF 600.- per person for a maximum of two people on account of an association or as self-employed person (proof required). Local residency guests are not reimbursed for travelling expenses or overnight stays.
National and international artists receive Per Diems (CHF 50.- per day/person). We also cover travel costs within Europe (max. CHF 250.- per person; for the sake of the climate, we only pay for train journeys) as well as the overnight accommodation in our residency apartment.
Sharing
Voluntary work-in-progress Sharings on the last Friday of the residency allow our audience an insight into the creative process in an informal setting. In return, the artists receive the opportunity to enter into a dialogue with the audience.
Tech
In case of a public Sharing, we provide eight hours of technical support. This includes the setup, the support of the actual Sharing and the dismantling. We also provide a good rehearsal sound system with digital mixer. The Sharing should be kept simple and should not exceed 30 minutes. More complex technical requirements must be announced at least two weeks before the start of the residency. The details including the presence of our technician(s) must be agreed upon with our Technical Director Matthias Brunner.
