Wild Wild Card

A wilder version of the Open Practice Format Wild Card,, which takes place every Friday as a training event. This is a space for experiments, focusing on a theme, testing out an idea... still always within the realm of shared movement practices, accessible to all bodies, backgrounds, and abilities. These training sessions are (usually) led by Martin Schick and take place once a month.

QUEERING THE CIRCLE

After hacking Tango and twisting Ballet, we now set out to explore the universe of circular dances!

Circular dances appear, in one form or another, across many cultures. They can evoke traumatic memories, feelings of exclusion, or even appropriation. Yet at the same time, they embody the collective power of people uniting, celebrating, and resisting.

But what might circular dance look like if freed from nationalism and fixed cultural identity — if it embraced instead an internationalist, creole, and queer spirit?

Unlike the regular Wild Card Training sessions, this one is rooted in exchange, developing repetitive steps, patterns, and principles. Within this framework, we’re again seeking personal freedom, improvisation, and open interpretation. A very open space — welcoming any body who wishes to join!
