Professional Training Contemporary

Simon Wehrli

Going up, down and through the space in spirals and curves we concentrate on our relationship to the ground. Using short sequences, we work on elements such as spatial perception, expansion and cohesion. The goal is to stay calm also in moments of higher intensity and to enhance our awareness for the body, the space and our co-dancers. This training is influenced by Flying Low & Passing Through (dance techniques developed by David Zambrano), the Feldenkrais Method and Simon’s own ideas.

Simon Wehrli

Simon Wehrli (1983, Winterthur) started as a musician. He later attended the Accademia Teatro Dimitri in Verscio (CH) and studied contemporary dance at Trinity Laban London (UK). Simon toured Europe, the USA, and Africa as part of the physical theater group Collettivo Spettatori and the dance improvisation group 50 collective. As a dancer, actor, and musician he worked for choreographers in London, New York, Brussels, Zürich and Basel. In 2010, Simon was selected to participate in the international project 50 days of flying low and passing through Costa Rica 2010 under the direction of dancer David Zambrano. After several shorter solos, his first full-length production Greatest Hits premiered in 2013, co-produced with Tanzhaus Zürich, followed by the site-specific performance How to Become Clairvoyant. From 2018, further pieces followed in collaboration with Jasmina Križaj, such as Nature Poetry or Nothing Works (Shakira, Shakira) and Deep Purple. Simon teaches dance internationally, works regularly for the BA in Dance programme at La Manufacture Lausanne and is busy with his own productions and collaborations. He is also a teacher of the Feldenkrais Method.
