Professional Training Contemporary
Sarah Gordon Butler
This training incorporates both improvised movement and choreography. It begins with guided improvisation to awaken creative impulses, spatial awareness, and presence, while also exploring how texture and narrative can shape and inform movement quality. Ballet forms and various structured exercises are introduced to enhance creativity within codified techniques. The training then progresses to learning choreographed material, offering an opportunity to integrate the discoveries from the earlier movement research into a defined structure. In this phase, participants are invited to play with weight shifts of weight, isolations, musicality, and imagination—investigating how their personal approach can enrich and deepen the material while maintaining the integrity of the choreography.
