ZÜRICH TANZT: Wannabe

At the age of nine, Kiyan Khoshoie discovers the NSYNC video Its gonna be me – and is captivated. From then on, he spends his free time immersed in MTV music videos: the choreography, the songs, the attitudes of the pop icons of the 1990s and early 2000s. He finds a safe space for this in his bedroom.

Decades later, he still feels the power of this music. Does he still love it in the same way today? Wannabe is a personal solo piece about pop music as a place of freedom and self-expression. Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, the Backstreet Boys and others reappear – in Kiyan’s body, in his voice and in his adult imagination.

Kiyan Khoshoie

Kiyan Khoshoie, a Swiss-Iranian dancer and choreographer trained at the Rotterdam Dance Academy, has worked with companies in the Netherlands, Spain and Germany. In 2018 he created the solo GRAND ÉCART (Swiss Dance Days 2021), in 2022 KICK BALL CHANGE with Charlotte Dumartheray (including the Solothurn Film Festival) and in 2025 TIME OF MY LIFE for the St. Gallen Dance Company. His next piece, BODY ELECTRIC, is a Label+ Romand laureate (world premiere 2027). Kiyan is an Associate Artist at Usine à Gaz in Nyon (2025–2028) and teaches at the Ballet Junior de Genève and at CFP Arts.
