KORNI

KORNI (Kazakh/Russian for “root”) is a dance theatre duet exploring forms of toxic masculinity—their origins, their effects, and their potential transformations. The title refers to deeply ingrained patterns passed down through upbringing, culture, and social norms: emotional restraint, dominance, control.

Drawing on personal biography, the work examines the tension between cultural conditioning and individual development. Growing up between conflicting notions of masculinity—between toughness and an ideal of strength, between control and the desire for emotional openness—the body becomes an archive of these experiences.

KORNI is not a representation, but a confrontation. Masculinity emerges as a relationship, a process, a movement.
