Creature Comforts

Welcome to the microcosmos of Creature Comforts, where we learn about Gullibilius, a giant creature living in symbiosis with its six tiny inhabitants. The performers Edwin Ramirez, Nina Mühlemann, Paloma Ayala supported by Jenn Unfug, Kamran Behrouz, V Pierzyński and Alessandro Schiattarella will be your guides and hosts, inviting you to explore and perceive sensuality in new and unexpected ways.

Being aware that we all experience our surroundings very differently, Creature Comforts imagines a world of access, comfort and wonder for many different creatures and bodyminds. Be guided through an individually tailored experience and celebrate the Joy of Missing Out in a multilayered, immersive performance.

Picture description
A detailed pastel blue, lavender, and pastel green drawing of Gullibilius on a beige-brown coffee-tinted background. Gullibilius is a creature Kamran Behrouz called into being by mapping their autism. On the right side of its body, Gullibilius has two lavender tentacles emerging and functioning as some sort of legs, studded with suction cups. Next to the tentacles, its two muscular blue legs, which have hands instead of feet, softly prop its body up. The blue hands as feet belong to a body with a bald blue human head, eyes and mouth closed, but a third open eye on its forehead. The centre of the body consists of a large brain, in which a sleeping mint-green cat is nestled alongside a shimmering jellyfish. Next to the brain is a large open eyeball, facing outwards, and on top of that is the aforementioned bald blue head. All these parts of Gullibilius, the tentacles, brain, legs etc. are labelled like a diagram. Next to Gullibilius' body is a small drawing of a winged blue creature with a bald human head and the body of a bird along with two hands instead of legs, which has Gullibilius’ original form. Next to the tentacles is a small drawing of a white octopus pointing to Gullibilius tentacle legs to show where tentacles originate from. The image suggests Gullibilius is a hybrid creature.

Criptonite

Criptonite is a crip-queer performance project founded in 2020 by Nina Mühlemann and Edwin Ramirez. In their projects they center the work of disabled artists, provide opportunities for disabled people who want to get into the arts and use access as an aesthetic. Their shows tell stories about slow animals, talk about Switzerland’s history with eugenics and use pleasure as a form of resistance. Their most recent piece, Creature Comforts, was shown at Tanzhaus Zürich in October 2023. Criptonite receives four-year funding from the City of Zurich from 2024-2028..
