Professional Training Contemporary
Professional Training Contemporary
The training is led by Pau Aran Gimeno
Atelier is a pedagogical approach shaped by Pau Aran’s career as a dancer, creative and teacher. The training understands the dance space as a place of experimentation and refinement of technique in service of creative identity.
Rooted in contemporary dance, the work combines Western techniques with ongoing movement research. Inspired by the Jooss-Leeder method and Jean Cébron’s compositional principles (energy, form, space and rhythm), the training places its focus on breath, repetition and opposing directional forces. Through technique, improvisation and composition, dancers develop a shared physical language while deepening their personal expression, autonomy and collective awareness.
What awaits you in this training (skills):
30% technique
25% set up material
20% body awareness & breath
15% personal expression
10% collective practice & shared physical language
Pau Aran Gimeno
Spanish-born Pau Aran Gimeno discovered his love for dance at a local dance school when he was ten years-old and learnt ballroom, jazz, classical and modern dance. Turning his hobby into a profession, he trained at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany, and later joined Tanztheater Wuppertal (2006–2020). There he danced in 25 pieces, delving into the complexity of Pina Bausch’s movement language. Parallel to his work in Wuppertal, Pau has been a freelance artist since 2013. He choreographed Lettre d’amour (2020), a duet co-produced by the GREC Festival and premiered in Barcelona at the CCCB, and Un cadavre exquis II (2021–2022), a solo co-produced by the Steptext dance project e.V. and Festival Dansa Metropolitana, which premiered in Madrid at Naves del Español. Eager to share the dancing experience he has gathered with the next generation, Pau has been teaching since 2020.
