Origo Gentis
A sharing by Breakthrough Dance Company

Björn (BUZ) Meier from Zurich and Koichiro Mori from Japan are exploring what connects their home countries – from mountains and snow to traditional Japanese theatre and street dance.

In this residency, dancers and choreographers Björn (BUZ) Meier from Zurich and Koichiro Mori from Japan come together. They’re looking for what connects the cultures of their home countries. Early sources of inspiration include mountain landscapes, winter scenery, and skiing, as well as practices from traditional Japanese Noh theatre. Add to that their individual movement languages: Meier and Mori are both rooted in the street dance styles breaking and popping. Together with musician Janiv Oron from Basel, they’re also exploring possible soundscapes. At this sharing, the three of them show you a first, still very open stage of their artistic process.

Sharings offer a glimpse into the creative process behind an artistic work. After the presentation, there will be a brief audience discussion. This provides the audience with an opportunity to ask questions, share thoughts, and engage in direct dialogue with the artists.
