A ballet class in classical structure, combining the best of different dance schools and contemporary approaches.
Frances Chiaverini’s class is structured like a classical ballet lesson, but deliberately draws on a range of influences: the established methods of Cecchetti and Vaganova, late 20th-century American ballet, as well as elements of contemporary dance and William Forsythe’s movement language. The exercises range from simple and clear to rhythmic and expressive – leaving you plenty of room to bring your own accents.
Frances Chiaverini
Frances Chiaverini (graduated from The Juilliard School in 2003) danced with companies and artists including NDT2, The Forsythe Company, Karole Armitage, Schauspielhaus Zürich and Anne Imhof. As a Resident Fellow at the Center for Ballet and the Arts (2020) and at PACT Zollverein (2015 to 2017), Frances Chiaverini co-founded and co-directed the creative platform WHISTLE, which advocates for the safety, health and wellbeing of dancers. Frances Chiaverini’s artistic work has been supported by, among others, the Kulturamt Frankfurt am Main and Migros Kulturprozent as part of M2ACT Zürich.
