Twerkshop

Romincio Cayol, Sarah Colombiana, Nimia Uloaku Gracious, Lateena Plummer

The Twerkshops are a QTBIPOC-centered community practice space that explores the histories of twerking as a dance form to conserve knowledges and contribute to the ongoing effort of reclaiming this dance style. The practice is somewhat somatic, but it incorporates contemporary Blackness, heavily influenced by the aesthetics of Black women in pop culture (especially Jamaican female dancehall).

We practice hip isolations on different rhythms, acrobatic moves, lap dances, and work on twerking choreographies together.

Hosted by Nimia Gracious in collaboration with experi_betriebsbüro

Romincio Cayol

Rominicio a 23-year-old Aquarius. Dancing has always been an innate part of him, never formally practiced since childhood. He began showcasing his skills at a young age, paused, and resumed after meeting Lateena. Originally from Saint Martin, he identifies as French due to the French side. He has performed frequently in Switzerland, including Zurich, Bern, Lausanne, Geneva, Yverdon, and internationally in Amsterdam and Germany.

Sarah Colombiana

Sarah Colombiana is a lash technician and dancer. Dance has always been an intrinsic part of who she is. It is a natural gift that she has possessed since her youth, and she has never needed formal training to express herself through movement. Her journey as a dancer for Lateena Plummer has taken me her to various stages in Switzerland and internationally.

Nimia Uloaku Gracious

Nimia Uloaku Gracious Nwaogu is a non-binary transfeminie transdisciplinary artist based in Zurich. Her artistic practice spans between story telling thorough different mediums like physical movement, text and the creation of soundscapes in the style of sonic collages. And on the other hand she is active in decolonial and transfuturistic social participatory arts by claiming inexcessible spaces and entering them with the QTBIPOC community.

Lateena Plummer

Lateena Plummer is a Jamaican, transgender singer, performer and activist, based in Zurich as political refugee since 2019. She wants to change the genre of dancehall completely, from a homophobic and sexist perspective into centering a LGBTQIA+ perspective. Since her first single Boom released, she gained a big following on social media and is known as Switzerland’s dancehall queen. Last year she released her first album Luxurious Legacy, a compilation of nine songs. In 2023 she has already performed eight live performances for example at m4music festival, which was aired on radio SRF, at Sedel Festival in Luzern and in Stall 6 of the Theaterhaus Gessnerallee.
