Professional Training Contemporary

Marion Sparber

I teach contemporary dance with a focus on floor work. We start the class by opening our channels of consciousness. The warm-up is based on spontaneous and instinctive exercises, as well as on letting go of the muscles and activating the bone structure. At the same time we will feel our body in its entirety and expand our flexibility and strength. We will use the spontaneity and joy of playing in our movement to surprise ourselves and others. In quiet moments we connect with the ground, our roots and the natural flow of breath. With the help of exercises in different constellations – in a group, with a partner and alone – we listen to the weight of our body and steer it through space. An important aspect of the training is the attention to the dynamics in the movement and the integration of dynamics and musicality in movement phrases. As inspiration techniques for my class I use very much the principles of David Zambrano's Flying-Low technique and release technique mixed with my personal style. I like to awaken the mind and body, to train fast acting and to use group dynamics as a motor of creativity within the class.
