Pleasure Practices

Soraya Leila Emery

The Pleasure Practices is a workshop series where we explore pleasure as a joyful, collective, and creative practices. As part of Soraya’s choreographic research on female pleasure and inspired by her North African roots, each session has a different focus but is always anchored in consent, curiosity, and fun, and is meant as a space to connect with practices that feel good, for ourselves and with one another.

We might write erotic stories inspired by Sheherazade, paint our bodies in henna inspired style, sing karaoke to iconic SWANA music (Aïcha, Aïcha écoute-moi!), unleash our voices and possibly moan, play dress-up with fabrics and costumes, or take a rest, pause and reset by learning some massage techniques. Sometimes Soraya facilitates solo; sometimes she invites special guests to share their knowledge; and other times we plug in our common knowledge and learn from one another.

It's exploratory, sensual, sometimes giggly. Come discover what pleasure means to you. ;-)

Monday, June 15 with Hakima and Soraya Leila
This Pleasure Practice is an encounter between the practices of Hakima and Soraya Leila. Merging different practices that we carry and practice, involving voice, massage, physical touch, and simple rituals, we will experiment with different ways of holding each other and being held, giving and receiving care, and perhaps the pleasure of co-regulation. A gentle space to slow down, connect, and experience the joy of caring for one another.

The workshops are related to Soraya Emery's production Coming Soon – premiere on 27 March 2026.

Soraya Leila Emery

Soraya Leila Emery is a Swiss-Moroccan choreographer based in Zurich. In 2023/24, as a TanzPlan Ost Associated Artist, she created her group piece TURN ON. In her current work, Soraya Leila explores themes of desire through an intersectional, decolonial, and feminist lens, providing a platform for MENA* dancers. Her earlier works questioned the preservation and transmission of cultural identity and the representation of the female Arab body. She earned her Master's degree in Choreography from ZHdK Zurich in 2024, graduated as a contemporary dancer from SEAD in 2017, and from CFPArts Geneva in 2014.
