Cie. La Ronde

Sharing: 8

8 is a full-evening dance work by Cie. La Ronde, fusing a quartet of internationally renowned choreographers: Cathy Marston, Ihsan Rustem, Caroline Finn and Luca Signoretti. All Swiss-based artists, they come together to tell a story; a modern-day adaptation of Schnitzler’s masterpiece – his controversial 1920 play Reigen (La Ronde). The four unique choreographic voices tell eight intimate encounters, linking them together in a chain-narrative of desire, temptation and transmission.

During their two-week residency at Tanzhaus Zürich, Cie. La Ronde will begin the creation of 8, building the cycle of duets.

The informal Sharing of the work in progress will be followed by a short audience discussion with artistic directors Cathy Marston and Ihsan Rustem, together with fellow choreographer Caroline Finn.

Cie. La Ronde

Cie. La Ronde was founded by Cathy Marston and Ihsan Rustem in 2020, a year in which the Covid pandemic forced a reorientation of artistic creation. In 2023 Rustem assumed sole artistic responsibility for the company following Marston's appointment as Director of Zurich Ballet.

Gathering diverse artistic voices and visions to co-create thought-provoking performances, the Zurich-based company has established itself as a platform for collaborative artistic expression. The company’s first production 8, enjoyed great success on the Swiss dance scene after premiering at its co-production house Theater Winterthur in 2022, followed by a nationwide tour as part of the Migros Culture Percentage Dance Festival Steps.

Cie. La Ronde creates physical danced theater works that are accessible to a wide audience and reflect current issues through imaginative and authentic communication. At the heart of its commitment is "development through exchange," with a focus on the transmission and transferral of knowledge. Four choreographers work collaboratively on both conceptual and choreographic aspects, assisting one another and exploring methods to challenge one another and foster artistic growth. The performers are integral to this creative exchange, shaping the work with their diverse perspectives and artistry, reflecting the company’s commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive artistic environment. With an all-Swiss based team, Cie. La Ronde places a significant emphasis on nurturing national talent, and dedicates itself to supporting emerging dancers and choreographers in the early stages of their careers. For the new production, the company has invited Zurich based dancer and choreographer Sarafina Beck to join its choreographic team.
