GUGUS!
GUGUS!
A dance piece for everyone aged 6 and up, for children and adults, with or without children, by Rebecca Weingartner
Acrobatics, dance, music and plenty of nonsense: GUGUS! throws the rules of everyday life out the window for a moment and celebrates the joy of the absurd. A Dada-inspired dance piece for everyone aged 6 and up, for children and adults, with or without children.
On stage, two circus artists come together and set the space in motion with a teeterboard. They fly through the air, dance, make music, invent sounds and transform into strange characters.
In Swiss German, «Gugus» means both «hello» and «nonsense». And that is exactly what the piece is about: things that do not need to have a purpose. Play, silliness and the joy of letting things make no sense for once, while everyday life takes a break.
GUGUS! is inspired by Dada. The art movement originated in Zurich more than a hundred years ago. Its artists broke with the rules and ideas of art at the time. They played with language, sounds, chance and absurdity.
In GUGUS!, too, the need to function can take a break for a moment. It is about trying things out, being amazed and enjoying nonsense.
The piece lasts 60 minutes and contains no spoken language.
For those who want even more dancing: A family breaking workshop will take place at Tanzhaus straight afterwards. Through simple movement exercises, partner activities and a short choreography, children aged 6 and over and their accompanying adults can try out their first breaking moves. No previous experience or registration is required.
GUGUS! is a coproduction in the frame of the Programming Fund of Reso – Dance Network Switzerland. Supported by Pro Helvetia and the cantons.
